YANAKA seven lucky gods

January 6, 2001
A New Year's party also carries out "seven lucky gods circulation" previously. Although many courses were introduced when referred to the Internet as "seven lucky gods", I decided to revolve "Yanaka seven lucky gods" made the oldest this time at Edo. since there is also no reason to hurry, although seemingly it is the course of about 2 hours, he will walk unconsciously and I will go.

Seven lucky gods; Seven persons' God in which it believes as God of fortune in Japan. Seven God of a DAIKOKUTEN, EBISU, BISYAMONTEN, BENZAITEN, HUKUROKUJU, JUROUJIN, and HOTEI.

Although a "DAIKOKUTEN" is agricultural God, he is also God of a kitchen and has a big bag.
Although "EBISU" has a fishing line by fishery God, is also commercial God.
"BISYAMONTEN" became one of the big four who are Buddhistic guardian deities from God of India.
Is God in which it believes by Taoism, and "HUKUROKUJU" and a "JUROUJIN" are God of a long life.
For a "HOTEI", a real Zen monk is a model.
Well, God of the water of India is the origin and "BENZAITEN" is God of treasure.

In order to pray the fortune for one year by the 7th from the New Year's Day, it is called "seven lucky gods circulation" to make a round of pilgrimages to the shrine which deified these gods, or a Buddhist temple.

If it gets down from the JR Yamanote Line Tabata station chosen as the start point, although it is fine, I will cut it, and a cold wind will puff it out from through.12:10 starts. Although it thought whether a map would be in a station, I place, and there is nothing and I aim at "TOUKAKUJI-temple" which serves as the first destination based on the map prepared in advance. The middle, I escape from the inside of the boundary of the "YAWATA- shrine", and I appear in "Red paper two Deva kings Passage", greeting guardian dogs. If crimson, in addition a card are stuck on a two-Deva-kings image's, I understand that "Red paper two Deva kings" has a miracle, and it is full of whole body cards.

The back of "Red paper two Deva kings" is "TOUKAKUJI-temple". It is crowded with the man involving "seven lucky gods", and the people which were already able to be revolved after this. We go to an affairs-of-a-Shinto-shrine place, buy the colored paper which obtains an official letter bearing the scarlet seal of the shogun (1,000 yen per sheet with a multicolored printing wood-block print), and have an official letter bearing the scarlet seal of the shogun pushed (200 yen). "HUKUROKUJU" deified here is in an affairs-of-a-Shinto-shrine place. If a bell is sounded, I will leave the sound in which the cymbal attached to the bell together became clear. Central building is also rather splendid and I have written BONJI here and there.

According to a map, I aim at the next "SEIUNJI-temple". We discover the fat cat the middle. she does not do escape, either but comes together -- also coming out -- there is nothing and see here. Even if we approach, she does not escape. It seems that she seemingly gets the eye sick and cannot be clearly seen somehow. Possibly, she may be a thing visually handicapped.

Since the scale of a map which I carry out to reference is inaccurate, the chimney of the public bath used as an object is not known. When we lost our way, local one told the way kindly. If a large passage is crossed and it escapes from a residential street, I will arrive at a "SEIUNJI-temple". I obtain an official letter bearing the scarlet seal of the shogun in an affairs-of-a-Shinto-shrine place, and visit to "EBISU" deified in the central building.

If the original way is progressed as it is, there is "SYUUJOUIN-temple" by which the "HOTEI" is deified. Since the room where a cloth bag is deified, and an affairs-of-a-Shinto-shrine place are situated in the underground of a Buddhist temple, I get down. Powerful "HOTEI" meets. The Buddhist temple is rebuilt modernistically.

We turn on the left at the point of "SYUUJOUIN-temple", and go up the "Fujimi hill". The middle, I carry out a chat the local direction which takes a walk in a dog, and have gone up the hill. The signboard which wrote the origin of the name of a hill was on the hill. It is written to the signboard as "the hill which can also worship Mt. Fuji perfectly in the city of Tokyo only(?) and now." (Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan. Altitude is 3776m and is located in an about 100km place from Tokyo.) Although it grew dim white by the degree of the direction of solar, I was able to worship perfectly. Devise, although it does not know whether photographing in a photograph finely is possible.

Although an original route is right-turn, we turn left and drop in to "SUWA-shrine". The lantern with which the white snake was drawn in the boundary is located in a line, and I take out a very much good atmosphere. Husband and wife did the walk of a dog also here. The kind of dog is not known. Bull terrier? A dear dog of the black spots on a white ground. The wife was an opposite side in a boundary, and if it calls as "Come!", the dog will have flown.

We return to an original route and pass through the residential street dotted with a Buddhist temple. We have been hungry although it will originally go to the direction of the "Yanaka-cemetery" if it comes out to a "GOTENZAKA-hill". Since there was the buckwheat noodle shop "KAWAMURA" of a good atmosphere, We will eat the buckwheat noodles of a duck. Comparatively white and thinner noodles of the scent were good, and were buckwheat noodles delicious after a long time. The "TSUKUDANI" store "NAKANO-YA" and rice cracker store "The Yanaka rice cracker" of a traditional appearance of a store are near this, and I purchased "TSUKUDANI" of a shrimp and a littleneck clam. (TUKUDANI is the thing which boiled down marine products etc. with soy sauce and sugar, and makes it the garnish of boiled rice like pickle.)

Once it comes out to the Nippori station and it turns from there to the direction of the Yanaka cemetery, We will arrive at "TENNOUJI-temple" which is the next destination. The building where "BISYAMONTEN" is deified is in the side of the building of the center of the structure carried out frankly. Although it thought that it was cold today, I was surprised that ice stretches to the washbowl.

When it passes in the Yanaka cemetery, seeing the tree of a big ginkgo tree, the end is the "TYOUANJI-temple". We go into a building, and if it obtains and looks back upon an official letter bearing the scarlet seal of the shogun, the "JUROUJIN" is deified in the comparatively high position. Outside a building, the small monument and "16rakan" (16 monks practicing asceticism) which were made by the rock are deified, and good atmosphere though narrow.

We passed through "YANAKA" and bought the ornament of a snake in the store which treats the good-luck article "YANAKA-do" the middle. If it comes out of a store, many cats also run about at the site of a residence. They are earnest, quarrel and climb even the tree. It was regrettable that I was far and was not able to approach the back from a gate. We aim at "GOKOKUIN-temple", after looking at cats for a while. "Ueno" takes for becoming near and the car of a town also increases in a lively way.

We arrived at "GOKOKUIN-temple" and obtained the official letter bearing the scarlet seal of the shogun. Then, the priest said "One more place, please be peevish, and do your best". In the temple, other God was deified with the "DAIKOKUTEN". The sculpture of the decoration between columns is also brilliant. We think that this Buddhist temple was the largest, old, and there was effect in seven places. The Noh stage was also in the boundary.

We walk aiming at "Shinobazuike BENTEN-DO" which is the last destination. "Shinobazuike" is visible if it turns around "Ueno Zoological Gardens". Although sweet drink made from fermented rice and the dumpling ware locate in a line and are prosperous, I also carry out mind which has few crowds than usual. I obtain an official letter bearing the scarlet seal of the shogun in the place included in the temple. "BENZAITEN" is deified in the direction in the inner part of a building, and if it goes to inside, the old woman recites the Buddhist invocation there. After visiting, I take a photograph so that it may not become an old woman's obstacle, and come out outside. If it looks back upon an approach from a temple, a colorful streamer shakes and very beautiful.

We also received all official letters bearing the scarlet seal of the shogun now. Since the reason for having chosen other not "seven lucky gods" but "Yanaka seven lucky gods" is because he wanted to get this colored paper, it is satisfactory. Time was 4:40.

Then, we buy a kimchi and meat in the Korean town in Ueno, and eat a globefish and go home.

The first short trip this year.

- 7lucky gods circulation is performed from January 1 to the 15th every year.
- There is colored paper as "39cm * 32cm." You are convenient if you prepare a pipe etc. on the day.
- If it measures from the Tabata station with a map up to Shinobazuike Benten-do, there is 5.3km.
